The Fitzroy River has been officially approved as a venue for rowing and canoeing events at the 2032 Olympic Games in Brisbane.
As reported by İdman.Biz, the decision has attracted particular attention because the river is home to crocodiles. Concerns had also previously been raised over the strength of its currents.
According to Queensland Premier David Crisafulli, the Fitzroy River underwent an independent technical assessment and was subsequently approved as an Olympic venue by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The river will host rowing, para rowing, canoe sprint and para canoe competitions during the Games.
The choice of the Fitzroy River had been the subject of discussion due to potential safety and competition-related challenges. However, the technical assessment cleared the venue for use at the Olympics.
The Brisbane 2032 Summer Olympic Games are scheduled to take place from July 23 to August 8.
