Azerbaijan hopes to host European and World Championships in Kondalanchay and Mingachevir in the future.
As reported by İdman.Biz, Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov made the statement at an event marking the opening day of the Mingachevir Regatta 2026 at the Kondalan reservoir.
"Every year, a large number of foreign athletes take part in this competition, and this makes us very happy," Gayibov said.
The minister thanked the Azerbaijan Aquatic Sports Federation for holding competitions in the country's liberated territories.
"I would like to thank the Aquatic Sports Federation for ensuring that at least one of the international and domestic competitions it organises is held in the liberated territories. All areas, including sport, are being developed in our Karabakh," he said.
Gayibov noted that the Mingachevir Regatta is being held in the liberated territories for the third time.
"It is encouraging that athletes from different countries are participating in the competition. This year, representatives of 12 countries are competing in the regatta. We believe that the tournament will continue to grow in the coming years. I hope that in the future, both Kondalanchay and Mingachevir will host European and World Championships," the minister added.
Gayibov concluded by wishing the athletes success in the competition.
The Mingachevir Regatta 2026 will conclude on October 1.
