A parade of participants for the International President Cup 2025 Regatta, dedicated to the 102nd anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev's birth, took place in the city center of Mingachevir.
Idman.biz, citing AZERTAC, reports that the parade featured teams from Azerbaijan, Estonia, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Serbia, South Africa, Spain, Tajikistan, Turkiye, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.
The event was met with great enthusiasm by local residents. At the end of the parade, the National Anthem of Azerbaijan was played. This was followed by a cultural program featuring various dance and music performances. Participants even joined in the dancing with the ensemble.
After the official part, dignitaries including Vugar Ahmadov, President of the Azerbaijan Canoe and Rowing Federation; Jean Zoungrana, President of the European Canoe Association (ECA); Ilham Ismayilov, Head of Mingachevir City Executive Authority; foreign federation representatives, and members of the sports community visited the monument of Heydar Aliyev and laid flowers in his memory.
The official opening ceremony and 200-meter races will take place on April 30 in Sugovushan, one of Karabakh’s picturesque areas. The regatta will continue on May 1–2 at the Kür Olympic Training and Sports Center in Mingachevir, where teams will compete in kayak, canoe, and academic rowing over various distances.
The closing ceremony will be held on May 2 in front of the Kur Olympic Center. It will begin with an awards presentation for the winners of the kayak-canoe and academic rowing events, followed by a festive cultural program featuring performances by dance groups and a concert. The regatta will end with a traditional fireworks show.
Notably, the International President Cup 2025 Regatta has been part of the European Canoe Association’s (ECA) official calendar for the third consecutive year.
