The World Wrestling Championships kick off today, October 24, in Astana, Kazakhstan.
As reported by İdman.Biz, four Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestlers will take to the mat on the opening day: Eldaniz Azizli (55 kg), Murad Mammadov (60 kg), Sanan Suleymanov (77 kg) and Gurban Gurbanov (82 kg).
Mammadov will face Turkey's Enes Basar in his opening bout, while Suleymanov will take on Japan's Isami Horikita.
Four-time world champion Azizli and Gurbanov have received first-round byes and will begin their campaigns in the next round.
Azerbaijan has sent a delegation of 23 wrestlers to the championships, competing across Greco-Roman wrestling, freestyle wrestling and women's wrestling.
The World Wrestling Championships will conclude on November 1.
