India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has confirmed that fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is unlikely to be rested for the remainder of the Asia Cup, despite a two-match home Test series against the West Indies beginning on October 2.
Idman.biz, citing Reuters, reports that Bumrah, 31, has had his workload carefully managed this year due to back issues and played only three of five Tests during India’s 2-2 draw in England. But Ten Doeschate stressed the importance of the Twenty20 competition, where India are defending champions, and said Bumrah remains central to team plans.
“I’d say it’s unlikely that he’ll get a rest… We’re going to pick our best team for every game, and he obviously fits into that picture,” the assistant coach said ahead of India’s Super Four clash with Bangladesh.
Bumrah has taken three wickets at an economy rate of 8.36 in the tournament, though he struggled against Pakistan, conceding 45 runs without a wicket. Ten Doeschate added that the bowler is managing the heavy workload well, highlighting the strain of bowling multiple overs in the powerplay.
