Sona Aghayeva climbs to eighth in world boccia rankings

Azerbaijani boccia player Sona Aghayeva has risen to eighth place in the world rankings in the BC2 category after winning a bronze medal at the World Championships in Seoul, South Korea.

As reported by İdman.Biz, the Azerbaijan National Paralympic Committee announced that Aghayeva earned 48 ranking points at the tournament.

The result increased her overall points total to 74, allowing her to climb seven places in the rankings.

Boccia is a Paralympic sport based on precision and tactical thinking. It is somewhat similar to curling, although players use balls instead of stones.

Athletes take turns throwing or rolling red and blue balls, aiming to place them as close as possible to a small white target ball known as the jack. Players can also knock their opponents' balls away or move the jack, making strategy an important part of the game.

The BC2 category is one of the classifications used in Paralympic boccia, which provides competitive opportunities for athletes with significant physical impairments.
