Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has identified four fields in which humans are likely to remain indispensable despite the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI).
As reported by İdman.Biz, the billionaire believes programming, biology, energy and professional sports are among the areas where completely replacing human involvement with AI will be particularly difficult.
According to Gates, the first three fields require human participation in developing innovative solutions, conducting scientific research and addressing complex technical challenges.
Although artificial intelligence can assist with writing computer code, analysing scientific data and optimising energy systems, replacing human experts entirely is a different matter.
Professional sports, however, occupy a special place on his list.
Gates believes that fans are interested not only in the results of competitions but also in the skills, determination and emotions of the athletes themselves.
He pointed to baseball as an example, suggesting that spectators would be unlikely to show the same enthusiasm for watching computers compete instead of human players.
Nevertheless, artificial intelligence is expected to play an increasingly important role in the sports industry. AI-powered technologies can help analyse matches, develop tactical strategies, assess player performances and support coaches in making decisions.
Gates also expects artificial intelligence to become widely integrated into other sectors, including construction, agriculture and healthcare.
He believes technological changes over the next 20 years could lead to some workers losing their jobs while creating opportunities for others to acquire new skills and enter emerging professions.
Despite the potential for machines to perform certain tasks more efficiently than humans, Gates argues that society will continue to value human participation in activities where personal achievement, creativity and emotional connection are essential.
