Greyhound named after Zinedine Zidane gains popularity in England – VIDEO

A greyhound named in honour of French football legend Zinedine Zidane has gained popularity in England.

As reported by İdman.Biz, the female greyhound, named "Zinedine Zedog", is owned by a group of 12 friends who are former students of the University of Edinburgh. They chose the name as a tribute to Zidane.

The dog, who is more than three years old, has won 10 of the 42 greyhound races she has competed in so far.

Her owners had previously considered another football-inspired name, "Demba Bark", a play on former footballer Demba Ba's name. They also thought of "Didier Dogba", inspired by Didier Drogba, but discovered that the name had already been registered for another dog.

Football-related wordplay is not uncommon in greyhound racing. Another notable example is "Pup Guardiola", whose name is a reference to Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola.

The owners of "Zinedine Zedog" are now planning to contact Zidane's agent in the hope of arranging a meeting between the legendary Frenchman and the greyhound named after him.
