The official countdown ceremony for the 3rd CIS Games was held in Ganja.
The event was attended by Farid Gayibov, Deputy Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Games and Minister of Youth and Sports, and Adil Tagiyev, Deputy Head of the Ganja City Executive Authority, Idman.biz reports.
Speeches highlighted that hosting such a significant sporting event in Azerbaijan is an important milestone for the country’s sports and cultural life.
In particular, Adil Tagiyev noted that extensive renovation and construction work is being carried out in the city in preparation for the 3rd CIS Games. Ganja has also seen the construction of the largest sports palace in the Caucasus.
Minister Farid Gayibov, in turn, urged Ganja residents to actively support athletes during the Games. “Less than a month remains until the start of the Games. As you know, sports are a priority area of state policy in Azerbaijan. Our country has already hosted various multi-sport events, but this is the first time such a major sporting event will be held in the regions. In Ganja, the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as competitions in several sports, will be organized,” he said.
During the ceremony, the official mascots of the 3rd CIS Games, Babir and Leyla, were presented to the public.
A highlight of the event was the activation of countdown clocks on specially installed stands.
The celebration program continued with a concert featuring popular performers Emiliya Yagubova and Chingiz Mustafayev. Additionally, the audience was treated to a musical and choreographic performance prepared by the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation.
The 3rd CIS Games will take place from September 28 to October 8, 2025, in seven Azerbaijani cities: Ganja, Yevlakh, Mingachevir, Gabala, Sheki, Goygol, and Khankendi. The opening and closing ceremonies will be held at Ganja City Stadium.
