The opening ceremony of the "Sports Capital" was held in Guba.
Idman.biz reports that the event was attended by Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov, Deputy Mariana Vasileva, Head of Guba District Executive Authority Ilgar Mahmudov, federation officials and media representatives.
After the National Anthem was played at the ceremony, the memory of the martyrs who died for the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan was commemorated with a minute of silence. After that, the mascot of "Guba-2024 - Sports Capital" called Fuji was presented to the public. The mascot reflects the symbol of the region, the apple.
Ilgar Mahmudov, who opened the ceremony with an introductory speech, welcomed everyone and emphasized that for the first time in history, Guba was chosen as the "Sports Capital". The head of state, Mr. President Ilham Aliyev, continued the policy of the National Leader and did great work in the direction of the reconstruction of many sports facilities in Azerbaijan and the development of sports in our regions. As a result of all this, we are known as a sports country in the world. The football match organized in Khankendi last year gave us a sense of pride. In Guba, many of our young athletes perform in various sports. I think we will prove to everyone that the heart of sports beats in Guba."
Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov thanked everyone for the hospitality: "Sport is politics in our country. This policy is implemented by the head of the country. In recent years, sports achievements in Azerbaijan have been developing on a rising line. There are many Olympic sports complexes. One of them is in Guba. Training camps and competitions in various sports will be held here throughout the year."
Gayibov presented the symbolic key of the "Sports Capital" to Ilgar Mahmudov, the executive head of Guba region.
Later, special shirts and jackets made for the "Sports capital" were given to the minister and the executive head.
After the official speeches, the event continued with the physical part.
