Ali Abdelaziz, the American manager of Russian UFC fighter Islam Makhachev, has commented on remarks made by UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria, who earlier promised to force Makhachev to submit in a fight in front of Russian UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov, İdman.Biz reports.
According to Abdelaziz, he was disappointed by Topuria’s behavior, noting that the fighter had previously been shown understanding due to family circumstances. The manager emphasized that Topuria was given time and respect to take a break from his career.
“I’m a little confused. Everyone gives this guy time and respect to deal with his family issues. That’s how it should be. But then he comes out and says all this about Khabib and Islam. For no reason at all. And he’s not even planning to fight. I’m not sure people should be doing him any favors anymore,” Abdelaziz wrote on social media.
Earlier, Ilia Topuria announced a temporary pause in his sporting career, citing the need to resolve family matters.
