The 2016 Olympic champion, Russian judoka Khasan Khalmurzaev, has announced his retirement from sports.
The 31-year-old judoka said he is generally satisfied with his sports career, Idman.biz reports.
“Although I had a goal of becoming a two-time Olympic champion, I understand very well why I was unsuccessful and I am learning from it,” he said.
According to Khalmurzaev, he intends to work as a coach. He plans to open specialized schools together with his twin brother Huseyn: “Not everyone can be a good coach, but I want to try.”
Khalmurzaev also won the European Championship in 2021 and earned a bronze medal at the World Championship in 2017.
