Azerbaijan has wrapped up its campaign at the World Judo Championships in Budapest following a defeat in the mixed team competition.
Azerbaijan faced Germany in the Round of 16 and suffered a 1:4 loss, marking the end of the national team’s journey in the team event, which featured 16 participating countries, Idman.biz reports.
In the match, Zelym Kotsoiev (+90 kg) secured the only victory for Azerbaijan. However, Eljan Hajiyev (90 kg), Fidan Alizada (57 kg), Aytaj Gardashkhanli (70 kg), and Nigar Suleymanova (+70 kg) were defeated in their respective bouts.
Despite the early team exit, Azerbaijan earned notable results in the individual competition, claiming three bronze medals: Zelim Tckaev (81 kg), Eljan Hajiyev (90 kg) and Zelym Kotsoiev (100 kg).
With these achievements, Azerbaijan ranked 14th in the overall team standings.
