The time of the "Grand Slam" scheduled to be held in Baku on November 1-3 next year has been changed.
According to Idman.biz, the decision was made by the International Judo Federation (IJF).
The prestigious tournament included in the "World Judo Tour" series will be held in our capital on February 16-18, 2024. The competition will take place at the National Gymnastics Arena.
Noting that Tel Aviv "Grand Slam" was planned to be held on these dates, Rashad Rasullu, the general secretary of the Azerbaijan Judo Federation (AJF), said that due to known incidents, the IJF has postponed this tournament due to security reasons. Then, AJF suggested that it be held in November next year: "We thank IJF for their positive response to our proposal."
He also emphasized that holding the competition in February will allow the points collected here to be used for license rating points for the Paris-2024 Summer Olympic Games: "If the competition was held in November, the number of participants would be significantly reduced because it would take place after the Olympics. Also, since we can book 4 athletes in each weight during this competition, this will create a certain advantage in terms of earning license points for the Olympic Games.
