Rajab Farajzade: "Futsal lacks funding, and no one wants to play"

"Today, there's a serious shortage of players in futsal."

According to Idman.biz, former Azerbaijani national futsal team player Receb Farajzade shared his thoughts on the recent friendly matches where Azerbaijan lost to Bosnia and Herzegovina (0:7, 1:5).

Farajzade highlighted several reasons for the defeats, particularly the shortage of local players. "There’s a scarcity of local players, making the coach's role less impactful. Interest in futsal has waned, with very few young players joining the sport. Additionally, the lack of quality foreign players and the limited number of teams in the league affect the national team’s performance. In our time, there were five strong local players and four foreign ones. Now, everyone is leaving futsal for mini-football because there’s less funding in futsal, and nobody wants to play," he said.

Farajzade is currently the head coach of Azerbaijan’s U-23 mini-football national team and the AzNur club.
