Azerbaijan national futsal team goalkeeper Rovshan Huseynli has chosen to join “Araz-Nakhchivan” to compete in the UEFA Futsal Champions League.
According to Idman.biz, the 34-year-old shot-stopper confirmed the decision in an interview with Report news agency, stating that although he had other offers, he prioritized the Nakhchivan-based club: “I had a meeting with the head coach and club management. I’m grateful they wanted to see me back at Araz-Nakhchivan. No matter where I’ve played, their offer has always come first. It’s my home club, where I became Rovshan Huseynli, and I’ll never forget that.”
He also noted that he had decided not to continue playing in Kazakhstan and wanted to experience the thrill of the Champions League again. Having spent eight years at Araz-Nakhchivan previously, the club's high ambitions influenced his choice: “If I want to achieve good results in international competition, this is the team I must choose.”
Assessing his team’s potential in the UEFA Champions League, Huseynli said: “The draw has already taken place, and we know our opponents. I’ve gathered some information. Araz-Nakhchivan is the group favorite, and we need to prove it on the field. I believe we can advance to the next stage as group leaders.”
Huseynli’s last club was Kazakhstan’s Astana.
Araz-Nakhchivan will represent Azerbaijan in Group F of the UEFA Futsal Champions League, facing Ljuti (Austria), PYF (Scotland), and Sparta (Northern Ireland). The matches will take place in Austria from August 26 to 31.
