The format for the 2025/2026 season of the Azerbaijan Cup in football has been announced.
Idman.biz reports that this information was shared with Report news agency by Sanan Abdullayev, Media and Marketing Director of the Professional Football League (PFL).
The PFL official noted that the main change in the tournament concerns the final match: "Considering the experience of other countries, the PFL has decided to hold the final earlier, on May 13. All teams participating in the leagues will take part in the cup competitions."
Abdullayev stated that II League representatives will start the Azerbaijan Cup season from the early stages: "Then, the winners will be joined by 1st League teams and the clubs that finished in the lower positions of the Premier League last season. In the next stage, the teams that finished in the top positions of the Premier League will also compete. Last season's champion, Sabah, will be placed in the first pot during the draw. Teams will compete according to Premier League rules. For example, 1st League teams will be able to use all their foreign players in their main squad."
In last season’s final, Sabah defeated Qarabag 3:2 in extra time after the match ended in a 2:2 draw in regular time.
