“We haven’t faced teams like these in a long time.”
This was stated by Qarabag’s head coach Gurban Gurbanov following today’s UEFA Champions League second qualifying round draw, Idman.biz reports.
Azerbaijan’s champions, Qarabag, will face the winner of the Shelbourne vs. Linfield tie. Commenting on the draw, Gurbanov told the club’s press service:
“Linfield is a familiar opponent. We’ve had intense matches against them before. Overall, they are a stable team, and football in Ireland has been developing rapidly. Both teams might not be the best match for us. We will gather detailed information soon and prepare seriously. These teams often prefer a fast and physical style of play.
In any case, there are no weak teams in the Champions League; all of them are ambitious. We have about a month to prepare, and we want to make the most of this time. Our first match will be away, and the travel distance to these countries is quite long. However, we do not consider this a problem and will plan accordingly. Regardless of any challenges, distance, or weather conditions, we aim to be ready for the opening match.”
Qarabag’s first leg will be played away on July 22-23, with the return leg scheduled one week later at home.
