Afran Ismayilov: “I hope our national team becomes champion and makes us proud”

“It was a very exciting game.”

These were the words of veteran footballer Afran Ismayilov in an interview with Idman.biz.

He shared his thoughts about the Legends Cup match held in connection with the upcoming Minifootball World Championship in Baku. Ismayilov, who played for the “Premier League Coaches” team, praised the initiative:

“It was great to gather with old friends. We hadn’t been together in a long time. The organization was top-notch. We opened the tournament, and now it’s time for our national minifootball team to compete. I wish them success. Our hearts are with them, and we’ll be there to support them. Hopefully, they’ll win the championship and bring us joy.”

Having scored in the match, Ismayilov admitted it’s always a pleasure to find the back of the net:

“The most important thing is that our team won. It was a good match—especially the penalty shootout. I believe the fans enjoyed it. The last time I played football like this was two years ago. I’ve been dealing with knee pain, which is why I haven’t been on the pitch. Despite still having some discomfort, I took part in the game and really enjoyed it.”

The Premier League Coaches opened the scoring through Afran Ismayilov, while Rashad Sadygov equalized for the Neftchi 2000s. The Premier League Coaches triumphed 3:2 in the penalty shootout.
