The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) has reportedly approached Shakhtar Donetsk head coach Arda Turan with an offer to take charge of the national team, but the former Barcelona and Atletico Madrid midfielder has declined the proposal.
As reported by İdman.Biz, citing the X account Boşuna Tıklama, which has around one million followers, Turan explained his decision by emphasizing his commitment to the Ukrainian club during a difficult period.
"The club doesn't want me to leave, and I can't abandon them halfway through while the conflict is ongoing," the Turkish specialist was quoted as saying.
According to the source, the Turkish Football Federation responded by offering Turan the opportunity to combine his responsibilities at Shakhtar Donetsk with the position of national team head coach.
However, it remains unclear whether the 39-year-old manager is willing to accept such an arrangement.
Turan, who previously represented Turkey at international level, has been building his coaching career after retiring as a player. Before taking charge of Shakhtar Donetsk, he managed Turkish side Eyüpspor, helping the club secure promotion to the Süper Lig.
The reported approach comes following the recent departure of Vincenzo Montella from his position as head coach of the Turkish national team.
