Eldaniz Azizli praises cousin, criticizes team effort: “Some players didn’t give their all”

“Unfortunately, we couldn’t secure a victory this time either,” said Eldaniz Azizli, Azerbaijan’s Greco-Roman wrestler (55 kg), in an interview with Idman.biz.

The four-time world champion attended Azerbaijan’s Nations League match against Estonia in Gabala. Azizli expressed disappointment at the missed opportunity for a win: “It was our final home game in the group stage. I was hopeful we could defeat Estonia. If there was any match we could win, it was this one. Sadly, it didn’t happen.”

Azizli highlighted individual performances, including that of his cousin, Joshgun Diniyev, noting his determination: “Joshgun and a few others were more active. However, as a team, they couldn’t play cohesively. Football demands that all 11 players on the field give their maximum effort. Some players stood out, but there were others who, frankly, didn’t seem willing to go the extra mile. I’m no football expert, but it was obvious from the sidelines that some weren’t running or opening up for passes. Missed opportunities were the reason we lost.”

Azerbaijan’s next match is scheduled for November 19 against Sweden at Strawberry Arena, kicking off at 23:45.
