Qarabag forward Zakaria Sawo has expressed his determination to secure all three points in the upcoming Azerbaijan Premier League clash against Neftchi.
As reported by İdman.Biz, the striker spoke to Sportify.az about his recovery from injury, Qarabag's European campaign and his international ambitions.
"Our goal is to get three points. We know Neftchi are a strong opponent and a very good team. But we are Qarabag, and our objective is to win," Sawo said.
The forward also discussed his return to action after a spell on the sidelines, praising the club's medical staff for their efforts.
"My recovery went very well. Our medical department did an excellent job and worked extremely hard to help me. I'm happy to have recovered from the injury and returned to the pitch," he explained.
Asked whether his availability could have prevented Qarabag's failure to qualify for the main stage of the UEFA Conference League, Sawo refused to take an individual approach to the team's disappointment.
"You can't say that because the result doesn't depend on me alone. There are 25 to 30 players in the squad. Football is a team sport. We were very disappointed not to qualify for the Conference League's main stage. Now our entire focus is on winning the domestic championship. That is our goal," he emphasized.
Sawo also addressed his international future, revealing that he remains open to representing either Sweden or Gambia.
His mother is Swedish, while his father comes from Gambia, giving the forward family connections to both countries.
"I don't know," Sawo replied with a laugh when asked which national team he would choose. "My mother is from Sweden and my father is from Gambia. Whichever country calls me up, I'm ready."
With Qarabag now concentrating on domestic success, the upcoming encounter against Neftchi represents an important test of the team's championship ambitions.
