Former Leicester striker Jamie Vardy has made history in Italian football by becoming the first English player to be named Serie A Player of the Month.
According to Idman.Biz, the 38-year-old forward, who joined Cremonese as a free agent in the summer, received the award for his performances in November.
Vardy quickly adapted to the new league and has become one of the leaders of the newly promoted Serie A side. One of the highlights of his month was a goal scored against Juventus. In the voting, he beat competition from AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan, Inter captain Lautaro Martinez, Napoli winger David Neres, Genoa defender Leo Ostigard and Udinese midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo.
Serie A CEO Luigi De Siervo, commenting on Vardy’s victory, praised his unique character and impact on the league, highlighting his leadership qualities, high level of play and important goals for Cremonese.
Overall, Vardy has made 10 Serie A appearances and scored four goals. He has become only the second player in history, after Gianfranco Zola, to score more than three goals for a club promoted from Serie B at the age of 38 or older.
The Englishman has made it clear that he has no plans to retire in the near future, and experts believe he is capable of performing at a high level for several more seasons, following the example of Cristiano Ronaldo.
