Dvorkovich unveils manifesto for third term as FIDE president - EXCLUSİVE İDMAN.BİZ

Current International Chess Federation (FIDE) President Arkady Dvorkovich has announced that he will seek a third term in office.

According to information obtained by İdman.Biz, the FIDE presidential election will be held during the General Assembly at the 46th Chess Olympiad, scheduled to take place in Uzbekistan this September.

Speaking to journalists, Dvorkovich said that his new term would focus on providing more practical support to national federations, advancing digital modernization, developing youth chess, expanding commercial partnerships, and bringing FIDE even closer to the global chess community.

He emphasized that during his first two terms, FIDE had been stabilized, international trust had been restored, and new opportunities for the development of chess had been created.

"Our main goal over the past two terms was to stabilize FIDE, restore trust, and create new opportunities for the chess world. Together with our member federations, players, organizers, arbiters, volunteers, and partners, we have inspired millions of people to take an interest in chess," Dvorkovich said.

According to him, the next stage should make FIDE more open, flexible, and efficient by minimizing bureaucratic procedures and responding more quickly to the needs of national federations and the wider chess community.

Dvorkovich's election platform identifies several key priorities, including simplifying internal FIDE procedures, improving services for national federations, expanding digital tools, increasing direct support for federations, investing more in children's and youth chess, strengthening financial sustainability, and accelerating the development of chess across Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

He noted that the objective is to make it easier for federations to develop players, organize tournaments, attract sponsors, and expand school chess programs.

Dvorkovich's team will also undergo changes. Kazakhstan Chess Federation President Timur Turlov will run for the position of FIDE Vice President. Turlov currently serves as President of the International School Chess Federation.

In addition, Azerbaijan Chess Federation President Mahir Mammadov, who currently serves as a FIDE Vice President, will remain part of Dvorkovich's team in the upcoming election. FIDE Vice President Mahir Mammadov has been a member of the International Chess Federation's leadership since 2018. During this period, he has focused primarily on supporting the development of national federations, with particular emphasis on youth and grassroots chess programmes in countries where chess infrastructure is less developed.

Mammadov has also played an active role in FIDE's organizational work and has made a significant contribution to strengthening cooperation and communication between the federation and its member national federations.

Five-time world champion Viswanathan Anand, who has served as a FIDE Vice President since 2022, will also continue working alongside Dvorkovich.

Dvorkovich was first elected FIDE President in Batumi in 2018 and secured a second term at the federation's presidential election in Chennai in 2022.
