The European Championship among school-aged boys and girls in boxing has concluded in Zlatibor, Serbia.
The Azerbaijani national team finished the competition with 3 gold, 10 silver, and 9 bronze medals, Idman.biz reports.
In the team, Abbasali Mammadli (48 kg) faced Armenia's Davit Dunyamalyan in the final. Our boxer defeated his opponent 4:1 (27:30, 30:27, 29:28, 29:28, 29:28) to claim the title of European Champion.
Nurlan Museyibli (66 kg) beat Russian Albert Fedotenkov 4:1 (29:28, 30:27, 30:27, 29:28, 27:30) in the decisive bout, while Ziraddin Rustamli (70 kg) triumphed over Serbia’s Dragon Todorovic with a dominant performance to become the best in Europe.
Other Azerbaijani boxers who earned silver medals include Nasrin Abdullazade (38 kg), Tunca Murshudova (42 kg), Fatima Mammadli (44 kg), Kamala Hasanova (54 kg), Babek Abdullayev (40 kg), Mahammad Kazimzade (42 kg), Nuran Yusibli (46 kg), Eljan Musazade (50 kg), Sabir Rustamov (57 kg), and Yusif Aghakishiyev (75 kg).
Bronze medals were won by Aysan Miriyeva (46 kg), Emiliya Beydullayeva (57 kg), Khumar Jafarli (70 kg), Sahib Bakhishli (44 kg), Mahammad Ali (52 kg), Farhad Guliyev (54 kg), Amid Alakbarov (60 kg), Mehran Rasulov (80 kg), and Erdem Tekin (90 kg).
With this achievement, Azerbaijan ranked second in the team standings. Russia took first place (20 gold, 3 silver, 4 bronze).
By earning 3 gold, 10 silver, and 9 bronze medals, the Azerbaijani team also broke its own records at continental championships. The performance in Zlatibor surpassed all previous results both in medal count and quality. Until now, Azerbaijani boxers had never won this many gold, silver, or bronze medals in such a tournament.
The team had previously secured 9 medals in Grozny (2011) and Banja Luka (2024). At best, 2 Azerbaijani boxers had become European champions in the past.
