Paris-2024: The leader in the Caucasus

The 1st World Olympic Qualifying Boxing Tournament held in Busto Arsizio, Italy has ended.

Idman.biz reports that 602 boxers from 113 countries fought for 49 licenses for the Paris-2024 Summer Olympic Games in 9 days.

28 male boxers and 21 female boxers have been identified. The men's national team of Azerbaijan performed successfully in Italy.

Nijat Huseynov, who tested his strength in the weight of 51 kg, won the right to participate in the French capital after defeating all his competitors. He is the 3rd representative of our boxing nation who got a license to Paris. Until Nijat, Murad Allahverdiyev (80 kg) and Mahammad Abdullayev (+92 kg) achieved this.

Only male boxers from 21 countries managed to win a license in the men's fight at the tournament held in Busto Arsizio. Only Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have qualified for more than one place in the group of 21, which includes the Azerbaijan national team.

Another 19 teams, including the Azerbaijan national team, received a license. These 19 countries include Cuba and the United States, which have rich boxing traditions. The hosts - the Italians and the boxers of the brotherly country of Turkey - were satisfied with only one license.

Nijat was the only Caucasian athlete to succeed in Arsizio, Busto. Unlike Azerbaijan, neither Georgia nor Armenia won a license to Paris.

In the general list, Azerbaijan shares 7-11 places. In addition to our collection, the USA, Turkiye, Italy and Ireland also have 3 licenses. The Azerbaijani national is the leader of boxing in the Caucasus. Georgia got only 1 license, while Armenia did not get a license.

It should be noted that the Paris-2024 Summer Olympic Games will be held from July 26 to August 11.
