Rafael Leao has shared his emotions after receiving Portugal's No. 7 shirt following Cristiano Ronaldo's departure from the national team camp.
As reported by İdman.Biz, the Galatasaray forward admitted that wearing the number made the occasion particularly special, both because of Ronaldo's influence on him and for personal reasons.
"Cris has been my idol since childhood. The number seven has a special meaning for me because it was the date my children were born. I just tried to honour this shirt and enjoy wearing it. The most important thing was to win the match and put in a good performance. I think we did a good job," Leao was quoted as saying by A Bola.
Leao wore the No. 7 shirt as Portugal defeated Denmark 4-2 away from home in the third round of the UEFA Nations League.
Ronaldo had previously left the Portugal camp, making the famous number available. The No. 7 shirt has been closely associated with the five-time Ballon d'Or winner throughout his long international career.
