Football Leaks founder Rui Pinto has accused FIFA president Gianni Infantino of helping Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain avoid tougher sanctions over breaches of financial regulations.
As reported by İdman.Biz, Pinto made the allegations in a post on social media platform X, referring to Infantino’s time as UEFA general secretary.
On September 25, reports emerged that Manchester City had been found guilty on 114 of 115 charges brought against the club. Possible sanctions reportedly include expulsion from the Premier League.
On September 29, an independent commission confirmed Manchester City’s guilt, with the club given until October 2 to lodge an appeal.
“Back in 2014, there was already someone who knew about the violations involving Manchester City. That person now runs FIFA,” Pinto wrote.
He alleged that Infantino, who was UEFA general secretary at the time, “abused his powers”, shared confidential documents and worked to ensure Manchester City and PSG received fines rather than facing deeper investigations that could potentially have led to Champions League bans.
Pinto said details surrounding the case had previously emerged through Football Leaks.
He then launched a highly critical attack on the FIFA president, describing Infantino as “a cancer in football” and arguing that he should have no place in the future of the game.
Infantino has served as FIFA president since February 26, 2016. The next FIFA presidential election is scheduled to take place in Morocco in 2027.
