Azerbaijan Boxing Federation held a General meeting: New vice president elected - PHOTO

Last year was a successful year for Azerbaijani boxing. The Azerbaijani boxers won 77 medals in official and international competitions in 2022, and 179 medals in 2023, 2.3 times more.

Idman.biz reports that this was reported at the general meeting of the Azerbaijan Boxing Federation (ABF). President of the Federation Sahil Babayev emphasized that Azerbaijan sports achieved great victories as a result of President Ilham Aliyev's special attention and concern for the development of the country's sports. He emphasized that our boxers are always determined to achieve new achievements, especially to successfully represent our country in international competitions, and drew attention to the achieved achievements.

The Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov, who participated in the meeting, emphasized that the success series of Azerbaijani boxing continues on an upward trend. He noted the importance of strengthening the material and technical base of our boxing, increasing the number of boxing clubs, and the work carried out for the wide spread of this sport in the regions. He expressed his confidence that our boxers will achieve brilliant victories at the Paris-2024 Summer Olympic Games and that the number of licenses for participation in the Games will increase.

At the meeting, reports on the results of 2023, measures to strengthen the material and technical base of the Federation, and the activities of judges were heard.
It was noted that Azerbaijani boxers won 30 gold medals in official and international competitions in 2022, while last year they climbed to the top of the podium 35 times. The success of our young boxers has also increased. They won 60 prizes in 7 international competitions last year. The number of medals was 64, including the achievements of the school boxers who participated in the European Championship.

Thus, the junior boxing team won 3.3 times more medals than in 2022. The number of medals of our young boxers increased by 3.2 times from 16 to 51 in 2023 compared to the previous year.

The main goal of Azerbaijani boxing, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, is to win a gold medal at the Paris-2024 Summer Olympic Games, where it will go with the motto "Towards Olympic gold".

Later, the Charter of ABF was approved in a new edition. Vasif Ismayilov was also elected the new vice-president of the Federation based on the vote. Born in 1972, V. Ismayilov has been active as a businessman and in the field of diaspora for many years.

At the meeting, the work done for our boxing to achieve new victories and the upcoming goals were discussed.
