Sarkhan Hajiyev: "According to the head coach's report, a decision will be made"

"We were all happy with the victory of the Azerbaijani national team over Estonia."

AFFA General Secretary Sarkhan Hajiyev told

Evaluating the last matches of the Azerbaijan team in the qualifying round of EURO-2024, the official of the association said that they were disappointed by the 0:1 defeat to Austria: "The team did not have a bad impact. At the end of the game, we could have at least drawn. Of course, history always has results. This also disappoints us."

The general secretary thinks that it is wrong to evaluate the performance of the Azerbaijan national team before the end of the qualifying round: "It would be good if we evaluate the performance of the national team after the results of the last 2 games. We have games left against Sweden in Baku, against Belgium. After that, there will be a meeting of the Executive Committee. The head coach's report will be heard and a decision will be made."

Sarkhan Hajiyev also noted that he is closely following the process of Azerbaijan's chances for the playoffs of EURO-2024 from the League of Nations: "After Türkiye has qualified for the main stage, we are paying attention to the results of Kazakhstan, Greece and Luxembourg. Luxembourg has almost lost its chances, and Greece is not dependent on itself. There are hopes for one Kazakhstan. We are considering that part of the issue as well. These issues will also be discussed at the end."

The official looks at the future of the Azerbaijan national team with hope: "The next qualifying round can be approached with hope. This year, 10 of our football players are already living the life of a legionnaire. This is a happy thing. There was no such indicator in previous years. It can be said for sure that our football players develop more when they live a legionary life. For this reason, we will see the benefits of this in future games."
