For the first time in Azerbaijan, the awarding ceremony of the winners of the 100 km ultramarathon race was held.
Idman.biz reports that the run dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the great leader Heydar Aliyev and Azerbaijani athletics was organized in the Baku Boulevard.
The president of European Athletics Association Dobromir Karamarinov, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Mariana Vasileva, and President of Azerbaijan Athletics Federation Javid Gurbanov took part in the awarding ceremony of the winners.
Karamarinov said that the Azerbaijan Athletics Federation has an important place in the European Athletics family as a reliable partner.
Javid Gurbanov noted that during the year, the athletics events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev are of a series nature, he emphasized that Azerbaijan's athletics has passed an honorable path in the 100-year history, and said that he believes that the Azerbaijani athletes will achieve great achievements in the upcoming competition.
It should be noted that in addition to local athletes, about 50 participants from Turkiye and Russia joined the ultramarathon organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Azerbaijan Athletics Federation and Baku City Circuit. Uzeyir Soylemez from Turkiye won the ultramarathon with a time of 7 hours 37 minutes 56 seconds. Aga Aliyev took the 2nd place with the result of 8:31.22. Artyom Aliyev finished third.
Among women, Leyla Abdinova climbed to the top of the podium with a time of 10:57.57. Natalya Vallek was 2nd, and Jamila Irefiyeva was 3rd.
