The host city for the upcoming European Athletics U20 Championships has been confirmed.
The decision was announced by the European Athletics Council, Idman.biz reports.
In 2027, the city of Bydgoszcz, Poland, will host both the U20 and U23 European Championships. Except for the pandemic period, this will mark the first time in history that two continental championships are held in the same city.
The Council has also expanded the program for the 2026 European Championships in Birmingham by adding three new events. Race walking will no longer feature 20 km and 35 km distances, but will instead be contested over half marathon and marathon distances. In Olympic years, only the half marathon race walk will be held. Additionally, for the first time, a 4x100m mixed relay will be introduced.
