The third stage of the 3rd International Khankendi Ultramarathon has concluded, with Georgian runner David Kharazishvili and Ukraine's Olena Shevchenko maintaining their winning streaks in the men's and women's competitions.
As reported by İdman.Biz, citing the Baku City Circuit Operations Company, the event has brought together 97 athletes from six countries.
The ultramarathon is jointly organized by Azerbaijan's Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Azerbaijan Athletics Federation and the Baku City Circuit Operations Company.
During the third stage, participants covered a distance of 46.8 kilometers from Barda to Aghdam.
In the men's competition, Georgia's David Kharazishvili secured first place, followed by Lithuania's Andrey Egorov in second and Azerbaijan's Elshad Nasibov in third.
In the women's category, Ukraine's Olena Shevchenko claimed victory, while Russia's Leyla Abdinova finished second and Azerbaijan's Natalia Vallek took third place.
Notably, Kharazishvili and Shevchenko had also won the opening two stages, extending their unbeaten runs to three consecutive stage victories.
The competition covers approximately 192 kilometers across four stages, with participants eventually reaching the finish line in Khankendi.
The route consists of four sections: Gabala–Aghdash (52.5 km), Aghdash–Barda (63.5 km), Barda–Aghdam (46.8 km) and Aghdam–Khankendi (29.2 km).
Winners of each stage receive separate awards, while the overall champions will be presented with the competition's main prizes.
The international ultramarathon aims to promote a healthy lifestyle, encourage participation in running and showcase different regions of Azerbaijan through sport.
The Khankendi Ultramarathon was first held in 2024 along the Khankendi–Baku route, covering 380 kilometers and attracting 64 athletes from four countries.
In 2025, the event followed the Gabala–Khankendi route, with 81 runners representing six countries.
This year's edition has attracted a record 97 participants, reflecting the growing international interest in the competition.
