"This is a tremendous achievement in Azerbaijan's sports history, especially in wrestling," former head coach of Azerbaijan’s Greco-Roman wrestling team, Elchin Jafarov, told Idman.biz.
Jafarov shared his excitement about the national Greco-Roman team’s recent triumph at the World Championships in Tirana, Albania, where they took the team title. "Winning with just four athletes, three of whom returned as world champions, is an extraordinary result that doesn’t happen often. Azerbaijani wrestlers have done it. Eldaniz Azizli claimed his fourth world championship title-a historic milestone. Achieving this level of success in an individual sport is challenging, and despite injuries, Eldaniz’s experience and skill led him to victory," he noted. Jafarov also congratulated Ulvu Ganizade (72 kg) and Nihat Mammadli (63 kg) for their victories.
He praised the coaching staff, especially head coach Alexander Tarakanov, for their dedication and impact on the athletes. "Our athletes’ successes will serve as great inspiration for our youth, juniors, and other team members. I hope our freestyle and women wrestlers achieve similar victories in the future," he added.
Azerbaijan’s team claimed the championship with three gold medals and a total of 85 points.
