In this field, wrestling with ancient traditions and a well-established school occupies a special place. With the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Olympic Committee, the activity of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation further stimulates the development of this sport and increases its popularity.

It was noted that this year, Azerbaijan's wrestlers have achieved great success in the continental championship. The national teams in Greco-Roman wrestling and freestyle wrestling ranked in the top three in the team score. The female wrestlers have also achieved the best result of the last 8 years. In addition, Azerbaijan won 3 gold medals at the European Championship for the first time in the history of Greco-Roman wrestling. A total of 16 (5 gold, 3 silver, 8 bronze) medals were obtained in this competition held in Romania. With this result, Azerbaijan took the 2nd place in Europe.

The participants of the event got acquainted with the conditions created in the gymnasium. The school and dormitory buildings on the territory of the gymnasium, which has been operating since 1960, were demolished because they were in an unusable condition, and a new building was built in its place in 2021 at the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

Currently, with the support of the Ministry of Science and Education and Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation, about 50 teenage wrestlers from different regions of the country are studying at the gymnasium. Schoolchildren who are provided with food and accommodation, along with teaching, take part in the training process of freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling in the gym of the complex equipped with all the necessary equipment. Wrestlers studying in grades 5-11 have the opportunity to acquire higher knowledge and skills in this environment. It is planned to attract more wrestlers-students to the gymnasium from the next academic year. This project will play an important role in the development of Azerbaijani wrestling and the formation of a new healthy generation.

It was also reported at the event that it is no coincidence that the meeting with athletes who have shown successful results in a prestigious competition such as the European Championship is held in a gymnasium. The fact that young wrestlers studying here get to know professional wrestlers closely and witness their success will be an additional incentive for them to develop in this field.

The foreign language oriented gymnasium has 1029 seats. Classrooms, laboratories, IT and military training rooms, a library and a cafeteria have been created in the new building. The 3-storey dormitory building located in the courtyard of the complex has 185 beds. There are classrooms and bedrooms, a canteen, an auditorium and indoor gyms. At the same time, there is an outdoor football and sports field.

At the end of the event, information was given on the work done to organize the European Olympic Qualifying Tournament, which will be held for the first time in Baku from April 5 to 7 this year, and it was pointed out that the competition is an opportunity to introduce Azerbaijan to the world as a skilled organizer of prestigious events. Good luck to the wrestlers who will participate in the tournament. desired.
