On January 24, a delegation headed by Japanese mogul expert Jiro Miyamoto met with President of the Azerbaijan Winter Sports Federation Fuad Nagiyev to discuss the development of winter sports and the promotion of mogul freestyle skiing in Azerbaijan.

Idman.biz reports that Nagiyev mentioned the special attention to the development of winter sports in Azerbaijan at the meeting by the International Ski Federation of the Shahdag Tourism Center operating under the State Tourism Agency. He pointed out that he has obtained a certificate for holding international competitions.

He said that the necessary infrastructure for organizing mogul competitions at the international level is available in the Shahdag Tourism Center and that he is ready for mutual cooperation so that Shahdag gets the right to hold competitions of this format.

Stating that in 2023, master-classes on moguls will be held for both skiing enthusiasts and trainers at the Shahdag Tourism Center, Jiro Miyamoto pointed out that he is ready to support the promotion of this sport in Azerbaijan and increase interest among skiers.

The mogul freestyle skiing has been included in the Winter Olympic Games as an official sport since 1988. In addition to this type of freestyle, which is considered one of the extreme sports in the Olympics, there are also types such as acrobatics, ski-cross, halfpipe, slopestyle and big air. With the support of the Embassy of Japan in Azerbaijan, the first master class on the mogul type of freestyle skiing was organized last year at the Shahdag Tourism Center for skiers.

It should be noted that on January 27-28, the next master-class on the mogul freestyle skiing will be organized at the Shahdag Tourism Center with the support of the Japanese Embassy.
