"We are heading to Bahrain with high hopes," said Elvin Zeynalov, the head of Azerbaijan team for the Gymnasiade, according to Idman.biz.
He noted that the team will participate in the multi-sport event, taking place in Manama from October 23 to 31, with a large contingent.
"Our team ranks fourth in terms of size and fifth in terms of athletes in Bahrain. Almost all disciplines will feature athletes under 16, and we are hopeful for a successful performance," Zeynalov added.
Azerbaijan will be represented by 160 athletes at the Gymnasiade, a competition regarded as a mini-Olympic Games for school students worldwide.
