The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will hold its next event in Rio de Janeiro on the night of October 11–12, with the main attraction being the return of Brazilian fighter Charles Oliveira.
According to Idman.Biz, Oliveira will face Polish fighter Mateusz Gamrot in the octagon. Originally, the bout was scheduled against Azerbaijani athlete Rafael Fiziev, who was forced to withdraw after suffering an injury during his training camp.
Experts believe Fiziev’s absence could significantly impact the outcome of the night’s main fight. Gamrot agreed to step in on short notice, just three weeks before the event, leaving him with limited preparation time. Known for his powerful striking and elite Muay Thai technique, Fiziev was considered a much tougher challenge for Oliveira.
Currently favored to win, Charles Oliveira will be returning to the cage following a heavy knockout loss to Ilia Topuria. However, the anticipation surrounding the canceled Fiziev fight continues to linger, as the Azerbaijani fighter was originally meant to be Oliveira’s main opponent.
Fiziev, who competes in the UFC lightweight division, sustained his injury on September 20. The 32-year-old holds 13 wins and four losses and is ranked 11th in the UFC lightweight standings.
