Preparations for the CIS Games are in full swing.
Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov made this statement following the opening ceremony of the President Cup 2025 Regatta held in Sugovushan, dedicated to the 102nd anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s birth, Idman.biz reports.
The minister noted that he would travel to Ganja and Goychay today to inspect ongoing renovation works:
“As you know, the CIS Games will be held across seven different regions. A stadium is under construction in Ganja, while a major sports complex is being built in Yevlakh. Most of our regions already have Olympic centers, and we are carrying out renovations to prepare them for the games. Some of these facilities are more than 20 years old. Today I will visit both Ganja and Goychay to check the progress.”
Minister Gayibov also touched upon efforts to boost youth football in Azerbaijan:
“We are working to support youth football. The Ulduz football club is managed by the Ministry. We organize various international tournaments throughout the year. The next tournament is scheduled for the end of summer, this time to be held in Guba. We aim to bring more competitions to the regions.”
The CIS Games opening and closing ceremonies will take place at the Ganja City Stadium. Competitions will be held across 12 venues in 23 different sports. Around 5,550 participants are expected to attend. In addition to CIS countries, teams from other nations have also been invited. Media accreditation is set to begin in May.
