“The regatta was held under very intense competition. That’s why we had to stay extremely composed and deliver our best performance.”
This is what Azerbaijani rower Alimurad Hajizada told AZERTAC after winning a gold medal at the International President Cup 2024 Regatta, dedicated to the 101st anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s birth.
Hajizada, who claimed the top spot on the podium in the men’s single kayak 1000m event, expressed satisfaction with his performance: “I gave it my all during the race. My opponents were athletes I regularly face every year. Nevertheless, I showed a better side of myself this time. Compared to last year, I performed better and demonstrated my abilities.”
He also spoke about his upcoming goals: “We have regattas in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, as well as the CIS Games ahead. We’ll do everything we can to prepare at the highest level for these competitions.”
Notably, Azerbaijani rowers wrapped up the tournament with a total of 15 medals.
