The European Judo Union (EJU) has spotlighted Azerbaijani judoka Eljan Hajiyev while evaluating the 90kg category ahead of the World Championships in Budapest, taking place from June 13 to 19.
The EJU emphasized that two Azerbaijani athletes, Eljan Hajiyev and Vugar Talibov, will compete in this weight division, Idman.biz reports.
The organization noted that European champion Hajiyev had been sidelined due to injury, but has now returned to action in excellent shape:
“Former European Champion, Eljan HAJIYEV (AZE) took some time out to mend an injury, but now he is back and fighting fit, proving that in Dushanbe where he took the gold medal, having to compete with team mate, Vugar TALIBOV in the final.”
Among the main title contenders in the 90kg category are two-time Olympic champion Lasha Bekauri from Georgia and Olympic silver medalist Sanshiro Murao from Japan.
