“This competition went really well for me,” said Azerbaijani judoka Konul Aliyeva (48 kg) in an interview with Idman.biz.
Reflecting on her participation in the European Cup held in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Aliyeva, who claimed the gold medal, shared that this victory was her main goal going into the tournament:
“We prepared seriously for this championship, just as we do for every competition. We had been in intensive training camps for a while. That’s why I was confident I would win a medal. The final against Poland’s Natalia Stoklosa was memorable. My toughest match, however, was against the Italian opponent, where I won by wazari.”
Speaking about her next goals, the young judoka added:
“The World Championship is ahead. That’s the main event for us. I want to carry this successful momentum into that tournament as well.”
Notably, Azerbaijan’s women’s judo team won the overall title at the European Cup in Sarajevo. Alongside Aliyeva’s (48 kg) and Gultaj Mammadaliyeva’s (57 kg) gold medals, Leyla Aliyeva (48 kg) and Gunel Hasanli (78 kg) secured bronze.
