Ukraine has officially withdrawn from the upcoming Judo World Championship due to the decision to allow Belarusian athletes to compete under their national flag.
The Ukrainian Judo Federation made the announcement in response to the International Judo Federation's (IJF) ruling, which permits Belarusian judokas to participate with their state symbols, Idman.biz reports.
“The Ukrainian Judo Federation has officially decided not to send the national team to the World Championship,” the statement reads.
“The Federation strongly condemns the IJF’s decision, as it contradicts the core principles of justice, responsibility, and solidarity that define the global sports movement.”
The Judo World Championship will take place in Budapest from June 13 to 20.
Russian athletes are set to compete under the IJF flag.
