The opening ceremony of the Azerbaijan Judo Championship for men and women was held.
According to Idman.Biz, the event took place at the Baku Sports Palace and was attended by officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Azerbaijan Judo Federation, athletes, and other guests.
The ceremony began with the national anthem, followed by a one-minute silence in memory of those who lost their lives during the Patriotic War.
Azerbaijan’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Farid Gayibov, spoke about the successes of Azerbaijani judokas in international competitions. He expressed confidence in athletes’ future achievements and hope for the development of new judo talent.
Rashad Rasullu, Executive Vice-President of the Azerbaijan Judo Federation, noted the smooth organization of the championship and highlighted the opening of new judo halls in the country.
A video showcasing the accomplishments of Azerbaijani judokas in 2025 was also presented, and the ceremony continued with artistic performances.
The competitions began the previous day, with 107 judokas competing for medals in seven weight categories. Overall, contests will take place across 14 weight divisions.
The Azerbaijan Judo Championship is scheduled to conclude on December 7.
