Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff summed up the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, noting that the team can be satisfied with their performance, reports Idman.biz.
In terms of points, the "Silver Arrows" were second only to Red Bull: George Russell finished second, while Kimi Antonelli came fourth.
"We had a great weekend and are leaving Azerbaijan with a positive result. It’s nice to return to the podium with George’s second place and to see Kimi score a lot of points for the team. Of course, we always think only about victory, but this result gives us optimism after two tough races following the summer break," Wolff was quoted by the team’s press service.
He congratulated Williams and Carlos Sainz on a well-deserved third place, noting that Antonelli did everything possible to catch up but the rivals were simply too fast. Wolff also praised the Italian for his overtaking move on Liam Lawson — a maneuver that Ferrari and Red Bull drivers were unable to complete.
Wolff also singled out Russell, who managed to start and secure a podium finish despite being ill.
"It wasn’t clear whether he would even be able to get on track on Friday and Saturday. But he did a fantastic job, delivering an outstanding result," the Mercedes boss added.
