George Russell, winner of the 2026 Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, will start the Singapore Grand Prix from the back of the grid.
As reported by İdman.Biz, the Mercedes driver will have a new power unit installed in his car, resulting in an automatic grid penalty.
The British driver failed to finish last weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix after suffering an engine failure. Mercedes has now decided to replace the power unit ahead of the race in Singapore.
Russell enjoyed one of his major successes of the season in Baku, where he won the 2026 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
The Briton is currently second in the 2026 Formula 1 Drivers' Championship with 236 points. His Mercedes teammate Kimi Antonelli leads the standings with 320 points.
Russell will therefore face a difficult task in Singapore as he attempts to recover from the back of the field and protect his position in the championship.
