McLaren have outlined their strategy to reverse a disappointing run of results in the 2026 Formula 1 World Championship, with further upgrades planned for the final stages of the season.
As reported by İdman.Biz, citing RacingNews365, team principal Andrea Stella confirmed that development work on the MCL40 remains ongoing despite the team's recent struggles.
According to Stella, no major changes are expected for this weekend's Mexican Grand Prix. Instead, the team plans to introduce significant updates at the Brazilian and Las Vegas rounds.
"We introduced new brake ducts in Baku. We have further upgrades planned for the upcoming races, but we will only be able to implement them in Brazil and Las Vegas. We hope these changes will allow us to fight regularly for podiums and move closer to the level of competitiveness needed to win races," Stella said.
McLaren, who won the Constructors' Championship last season, currently sit fourth in the standings with 355 points. The British team are level on points with Red Bull but trail Ferrari and Mercedes.
Before the summer break, Lando Norris secured victories at the Hungarian and Dutch Grands Prix, raising hopes of a strong second half of the campaign. However, the team's performances have since declined.
McLaren have failed to reach the podium in their last four races. Their best result during that period came at the Singapore Grand Prix, where Norris finished fourth and teammate Oscar Piastri took fifth place.
Tensions between the two drivers have also attracted attention. Norris and Piastri collided during the Singapore sprint race, while at the United States Grand Prix, the team instructed Piastri to surrender his position to Norris.
The upcoming upgrades could therefore prove crucial not only to McLaren's ambitions in the Constructors' Championship but also to restoring confidence within the team as the season approaches its conclusion.
The Mexican Grand Prix is scheduled for November 1, followed by the Brazilian Grand Prix on November 8 and the Las Vegas Grand Prix on November 22.
