Mercedes have been fined €5,000 after British driver George Russell failed to fulfil his mandatory media obligations following the 2026 Formula 1 Mexican Grand Prix.
As reported by İdman.Biz, citing the FIA, the governing body imposed the penalty following an investigation into Russell's absence from the designated media area after Sunday's race at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City.
Under Formula 1's sporting regulations, drivers are required to attend the media pen after a race to conduct television interviews and speak to members of the written press.
Mercedes representatives had informed journalists in advance that Russell would not participate in the scheduled media activities. However, the team had not obtained official permission from the FIA to excuse the driver from his obligations, including on medical grounds.
The stewards subsequently ruled that the failure to comply with the regulations warranted a €5,000 fine for Mercedes.
The incident followed the 19th round of the 2026 Formula 1 World Championship, which saw Red Bull's Max Verstappen claim victory after 71 laps in Mexico City.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton finished second, just 0.799 seconds behind the winner, while Mercedes driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli completed the podium in third place, 4.006 seconds off the pace.
The result provided Mercedes with a podium finish, although the team's post-race celebrations were overshadowed by the regulatory penalty involving Russell.
