Interview with Azerbaijan U-17 national team player Islam Huseynov, who belongs to Serbia’s Crvena Zvezda and currently plays on loan at another Serbian club, Graficar, by AZERTAC.
In January of this year, you moved on loan from Serbia’s Crvena Zvezda to another club in the country, Graficar. How are things going for you at this team?
Honestly, everything is going well. I have fully adapted to the team. The adaptation process for a footballer is not easy, but it wasn’t difficult for me. This year, a stronger squad has formed. We understand each other very well on and off the field.
Are you satisfied with the lifestyle in Serbia?
The life of a professional footballer requires discipline. I live a true athlete’s life: training, home, studies, and back to training. Sometimes we train two to three times a day. I enjoy it. Every session strengthens me both physically and mentally. That’s why I consider myself happy to live this way.
Recently, you scored a goal in the final minutes of the match for Graficar’s U-19 team against Partizan, playing a key role in the 3:2 victory…
I came on the field in the 59th minute. I already felt comfortable and tried to help my team. In the 83rd minute, I scored the winning goal. It was my first goal in the championship, and it’s unforgettable. Scoring is the greatest motivation for a footballer. Now I am working hard to continue this successful start. For that, I train even harder.
Which position do you feel most comfortable in?
I play both in attack and midfield. I have adapted to both positions. But when the opportunity arises, my main goal is to score. I want to benefit my team and make a difference.
What are your future goals?
Right now, my biggest dream is to join the first team. It would be a huge step for me. In the long term, I want to transfer to another country and play at a higher level. Like every young footballer, I want to test myself on bigger stages. One of my biggest dreams is also to wear the Real Madrid jersey.
Have you received transfer offers from other clubs?
As far as I know, there have been clubs interested, but my manager can provide more precise information. My job is to perform at my best on the field, other matters are handled by my manager.
You also play for Azerbaijan’s U-18 national team. How do you assess the team’s potential?
Yes, I play for the U-18 team. Our team is very strong, and every player has high potential. Talented players are part of this team, and each of us tries to represent our country in the best way. I believe this team will achieve greater success in the future.
How is the attitude toward Azerbaijani young footballers abroad?
I don’t feel like a stranger here. I have received a very positive attitude. Both within the club and in daily life, I feel the support of the people around me. This helped me adapt quickly. Feeling comfortable here allows me to focus solely on football.
