Como score nine as Liverpool suffer first defeat: Champions League matchday four roundup

The fourth matchday of the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League league phase concluded on Wednesday, November 4, with nine matches producing several remarkable results and unexpected outcomes.

As reported by İdman.Biz, the biggest story of the night was Italian side Como's extraordinary 9-1 victory over French club Lens. The result equalled the largest winning margin in Champions League history, while Anastasios Douvikas stole the spotlight with a hat-trick.

Another major surprise came in Istanbul, where Turkish giants Fenerbahçe handed Liverpool their first defeat of this season's competition. The hosts came from behind to secure a dramatic 3-2 victory over the English side.

Real Madrid also claimed a hard-fought 3-2 away victory against Greek club AEK Athens, maintaining their perfect record in the competition. Manchester City recorded an identical 3-2 win at RB Leipzig, while Arsenal defeated Slavia Prague 2-1 in the Czech capital.

Elsewhere, Porto comfortably beat Napoli 4-1, Club Brugge secured a 2-1 victory over PSV Eindhoven, and Borussia Dortmund overcame Real Betis by the same scoreline.

The evening ended in disappointment for Azerbaijan's Sabah. Despite taking an early lead against Norwegian side Viking, the Baku-based club suffered a heavy 4-1 away defeat, marking their third loss in four Champions League matches.

Following matchday four, Paris Saint-Germain lead the 36-team standings with a perfect 12 points, ahead of Real Madrid, who also have 12 but trail the French champions on goal difference. Arsenal occupy third place with 10 points.

Como, Barcelona, Aston Villa, Manchester City and Liverpool complete the top eight, all with nine points.

Sabah have slipped to 31st place with three points from four matches, sitting just one point outside the playoff qualification zone.

Under the current Champions League format, the top eight teams qualify directly for the round of 16, while clubs finishing between ninth and 24th compete in knockout phase playoffs.

With four league phase matches remaining, Sabah still have an opportunity to improve their position. Their next European challenge comes on November 25, when they host Spanish giants Barcelona in Baku.
